FROM THE FAMILY
Jake Amiott is a premier 5'8", 144/150-pound wrestler from Topsail High School in North Carolina who is quickly establishing himself as one of the state’s elite competitors. He trains with Sly Fox Wrestling Club under coaches Willie Hilton and Steve Anceravage, while also developing his skills with Coach Jack Daring and NC United. Through his commitment to training, competition, and continuous improvement, Jake is building a strong foundation for success at the national and collegiate levels. Beyond wrestling, Jake is an exceptional student who maintains an impressive 4.10 GPA while taking honors and college-level courses. His ability to balance a demanding academic schedule with elite-level athletic training reflects his discipline, work ethic, and commitment to excellence in all areas of his life. A Journey of Dedication and Growth Wrestling has been a major part of Jake’s life since first grade. For much of his athletic career, he competed in three sports, balancing wrestling with football and elite travel lacrosse. As his wrestling ambitions grew, Jake made the difficult decision to step away from football in eighth grade and travel lacrosse following his ninth-grade season. The decision came as he recognized that the national wrestling season, particularly freestyle and Greco-Roman competition, required a greater commitment. He chose to dedicate himself more fully to wrestling and pursue opportunities to compete against the best athletes in the country. After only two seasons of freestyle wrestling, Jake put together an impressive summer in 2026, demonstrating that his dedication and willingness to challenge himself were paying off. National-Level Success Jake’s summer accomplishments included outstanding performances on the national stage. **Fargo Nationals:** Jake reached the podium at the prestigious Fargo Nationals, earning All-American honors in a highly competitive field. **16U National Duals:** Competing for Team North Carolina in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Jake contributed to a dominant 13–1 combined run and earned All-Tournament Team honors. These accomplishments reflect his ability to compete at a high level, adapt to different styles of wrestling, and contribute to a team pursuing a common goal. International Experience: Bulgaria and Turkey Following Fargo in the summer of 2026, Jake received an opportunity that would become one of the most meaningful experiences of his wrestling journey: an international training trip to Bulgaria under Coach Cleo Ncube. Coach Cleo had previously met Jake through his high school coach and was impressed enough to invite him to join his Boston-based club for the trip. During the eleven-day experience, Jake trained internationally and competed in both Bulgaria and Turkey, returning home undefeated in his competitions. Jake describes the trip as life-changing. Beyond the competition itself, the experience allowed him to immerse himself in different cultures, learn from international wrestling styles, and gain a broader perspective on the sport and the world around him. For Jake, wrestling is becoming more than a competitive pursuit. It is opening doors to experiences that challenge him, build independence, and help him grow as both an athlete and an individual. He hopes to continue that journey with a planned trip to Normandy in 2027 to train before Fargo. Leadership, Character, and Future Goals Jake is a leader both on and off the mat. He takes pride in himself, his teammates, and the commitments he makes. Loyal, coachable, and driven, he is always looking for ways to improve and actively seeks guidance from coaches and experienced athletes who can help him reach the next level. He values the bonds he builds with wrestlers who share his goals, work ethic, and aspirations. Those relationships reinforce his belief that success comes not only from individual effort but also from surrounding yourself with people who challenge and encourage you to become better. While Jake’s long-term career path is still taking shape, he is exploring several fields, including medicine, finance, medical sales, and business. Whatever direction he ultimately chooses, he hopes to carry the discipline, resilience, leadership, and teamwork developed through wrestling into his professional life. One goal, however, is already clear: **Jake intends to become a wrestling coach at some point in his future. He wants to give back to the sport that has shaped him and help younger wrestlers develop their skills, confidence, and character. Looking Ahead Jake is preparing for Super 32 and plans to compete at several collegiate open tournaments during the upcoming season, including the Southeast Open, Georgia Open, Pembroke Open, and Newberry Open, while exploring additional high-level competition opportunities. With national All-American honors, international competition experience, a strong academic record, and a commitment to continued growth, Jake is positioning himself for the next chapter of his wrestling career. His journey is still unfolding, but his foundation is clear: a willingness to work, the courage to pursue challenging opportunities, a commitment to academic excellence, and a desire to use what he learns to make a difference in the lives of others. For Jake Amiott, wrestling is more than a sport. It is a pathway to opportunity, personal growth, lifelong relationships, and a future in which he hopes to give back to the next generation.
